I don’t think there are many, if any left from that raid.
I had the opportunity sit through a debrief of Operation Nimrod by him and John McAleese back into the 1990’s. It was interesting. He signed the H&K poster that still hangs in my garage. ETA: As far as I know this is the original HK poster. John McAleese is on the left and Mel Parry is on the right. McAleese passed away in 2011.

That raid was the first time that the general public heard about the SAS in close to 40 years. They’d been fighting secret wars all over the place and nobody had a clue.

I just re read it. It was one of red team assaulting from the top. They cut the rope at his request and he fell 12 feet.

Posted: 5/23/2023 11:16:20 PM EDTThey are indeed dropping in numbers, but there are still a few left. Firmin, Horsfall are still around and despise each other. Pete “Snapper” Winner. I think Bob Curry is still around.
The one surviving terrorist has been freed and is living in London on the dole. Attached File
I thought the building was gone now? It sat for a long time with the fire damage and bullet holes unrepaired. I visited it in the late 80s, it was a little surreal to walk up to the doorway and look at the holes from the buckshot they used for breeching. There was no door, could have just walked in had it not been for the fire damage, and that technically I think it was still Iranian embassy property.
I should probably watch "Who Dares Wins/The Final Option" again.

View QuoteThe Brits repaired it. I think they started working out of it again in the early 90s.

Tidbit, the lead actor in that movie was a reservist in the British Army and actually passed Selection for SAS (they have a reserve SAS component), but was disqualified due to his previous acting work as he might be recognizable.

Is Phil Singleton still alive? He used to run MP5 and AR courses. His website is gone and hisTwitter hasn’t been posted on in a few years.
Posted: 5/24/2023 2:26:48 AM EDTi saw the movie in the theater - it was only in the Tucson theaters for one week. Best line I remember is they were training on a train assault, and two were walking off, thinking it was done and one more "terrorist" popped out a car and popped a burst of blanks at them. They fell down and one said, "Bastards!"
The Sergeant Major, (I think), in charge of the exercise yelled out, "Live bastards, dead heroes!"

View QuoteI was wondering that, too. Hopefully, he just retired and is enjoying life. He was a funny guy. His MP5 instructor course was entertaining once I got used to the humor. He must be in his early 70’s.
If I recall correctly, he said he wasn’t on the entry team, but was in the staging area or barracks because he hadn’t been on the team that long when Nimrod occurred.

The producer was in London when the raid happened and watched it. He went to the government with the idea of needing assistance. They rejected it initially, until someone actually read the script. Then they made equipment and actual SAS members that had rotated back to their units available for some of the technical shots. They could do the stunts a lot better than the actors. Some of the guys that been on the raid served as technical advisors. One of the guys told the director about catching on fire during the breach and they incorporated it into the movie.
